Corrective Gymnastics

As we already know, during a ballet lesson different muscles of the pupil’s body are being worked: muscles of the legs, back, arms, neck… So the child with good ballet abilities can and should work on how to become a dancer and will, at least, enjoy excellent health!
I’m talking about children who have passed the medical inspection before starting to study the ballet art. If a child has any health problems, he or she may possibly attend special gymnastic courses and only after that try to return to a ballet class.
But if you are in very good shape (and the doctors confirm it) and you want to maintain it, then ballet lessons will help to prevent the development of unpleasant ailments such as scoliosis, flat foot, and other disorders.
For example, scoliosis and other disorders will not develop because you are using dance practices such as exercises for balance (the special stance on one leg - right\left, mat exercises lying on the back, jumps, corrective exercises for feeling different movements of the body and maintaining control of it in the appropriate way etc.); flat foot will not develop because the pupils rise on their toes in special dancing footwear and doing many different exercises that strengthen the feet…
So your body has first-class friends – your teacher, you own work and your desire to be a perfect individual!
And don’t forget that you must listen to your body and feel any slight pain when working your muscles. Your teacher will help you to do it in the proper way! There is an interesting fact: when you are working at what initially appears to be just an amusing exercise for one group of muscles (for example, in the “basket” movement, working muscles of arms and legs), at the same time you are working another group of muscles (in the “basket” movement, you are also working the back muscles and that is very important)! So as you might expect the pupils are doing amusing exercises with cheerful music but throughout this magical time YOU are becoming - step by step – a genuine dancer!
Over the months this appropriate work will rid you of many of the shortcomings of your body and sometimes – of your character!
